Dinesh Khadka
Honorary Consul of Nepal, MNZM, JPThe Honorary Consulate of Nepal for Auckland, Waikato and Northland provides consular services and support for the Nepalese and wider communities in these regions of New Zealand.
Mr Dinesh Khadka MNZM, JP was appointed by the Government of Nepal as the Honorary Consul of Nepal for Auckland, Waikato and Northland region on 27th July 2022.
Originally from Nepal, Mr Khadka emigrated to New Zealand in 2000 and has since dedicated over two decades to serving the Nepalese community. He is the founding National Coordinator of the Non-Resident Nepalese Association (NRNA) of New Zealand, a former President of the NZ Nepal Society Inc., and served as President of the NZ Nepal Chamber of Commerce for five years. He also serves on the Asian Advisory Board of the Auckland Business Chamber and is an Executive Member of New Zealand Asian Leaders.
Mr Khadka\'s commitment to the community is reflected in his extensive service — from organising the Nepal Festival 2018, which attracted over 9,000 attendees, to establishing the Nari Shakti Award celebrating the success of Nepalese women. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he personally funded and organised food assistance for over 800 stranded international students in Auckland, earning recognition as a \"Lockdown Hero\" by Volunteering Auckland. He has also led fundraising efforts for the 2015 Nepal earthquake relief.
In recognition of his outstanding services to the Nepalese community, Mr Khadka was honoured with the Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) in the 2025 New Year Honours — the first citizen of Nepalese origin to receive this prestigious honour. He is also an accredited Justice of the Peace.
